Anyone know spots to crab from the bank in Chauvin/Cocodrie area?

Going with the inlaws to Chauvin for a weekend to hangout for a birthday. They want to go crabbing, but not familiar with the area.

Try off the dock you should catch a few. If anyone in your party has a boat head up da bayou to bush canal I have caught some slammers in there. Also hang a cracked crab on bottom off the dock when the tide is falling bayou petite Caillou is loaded with monster drum.

ETA: my in-laws had a camp near Robinson canal for years

Do you know if the camp is on the bayou? Can always just go off the dock. Grew up going down there and live out of state now, but typically go back once a summer and stay at a relative's camp. Kids are too young to really go fishing, so we just catch catfish and load up crab traps. May put a turkey neck on a string for my 8 year old to play with. Never haven't been able to have a crab boil.

If not on the bayou, I'd imagine Boudreaux or Robinson canal is a place you can go set up. Always people fishing from the bank.

Camp is on Bayou Petit Gaillou. From the sound of it, we should just try right off the dock.

Pointe Aux Chene or Island Road. Neither are close to your area.

You would be better off fishing the main canal rather than crabbing. Lots of current when the locks are open, makes crabbing difficult.

I’m assuming y’all won’t have a boat since you’re asking about the bank, but people have success running nets from the other side of the bayou.

I often just work my nets from the camp side, but it’s not usually very successful.

See about renting a few kayaks. Can catch reds and drum fishing opposite shoreline especially on an incoming tide.

If you have a boat.....

Bayou Sevin and Bush Canal have a few crabs.
