Leaving the US for a job overseas.

I am thinking of moving overseas for a job offer in Qatar, and taking the family with me.
The incentives are nice. No taxes, free housing, paid vacation and transportation (including free flights once a year), free education, and free heathcare.
Salary is about 2X that what I make in the US.
I know that we still have to file taxes in the US (unless we revoke our citizenship, which we might contemplating of doin since we both have dual citizenship).
Is it true that that there is 112K foreign income tax exclusion per individual if you work overseas?
Anybody done that?

I have only qualified for it one year and yeah it is all legit.
I encourage anyone who works online to take advantage of this tax break if your personal life allows it.
It is not limited to making an income outside of USA. You can work for a USA company and just live wherever you want and qualify.

It’s the foreign earned income exclusion. Main criteria is you can’t be in the US for more than 35 days in the tax year.

When I was in Afghanistan with the Army there were contractors who lived that life to 10+ years at that juncture and built up a fortune not paying the tax man.

So I’m assuming you would home school if you did this? Or are there special schools?

Sounds like you know it but Revoking citizenship would be a bad idea. You want to have access to social security, other good jobs, etc.
I say take the job. You can lock up a bunch of extra money, give your family some international exposure, and have the option to move back in a really strong position.

Just take the 110k tax break and keep your citizenship. My understanding is the 35 day limit only applies for the first year. Then you can file as a Qatar resident

Unless it puts you on a poor career track and you have a wife and kids that are asshats that would be a bad idea to take to the Middle East, why not do it for a couple years?
I'm assuming it would be great for your career plus good money? So I don't see the issue.
If you have a mortgage currently and would move back I'd consider renting just to keep your mortgage and who knows where rates and home prices will be in 2-3 years. But that's a different subject all together.
ETA: There's quite a few people on this board that have worked in Qatar, I'd edit your subject line to that specifically

A buddy got stuck in Qatar for longer than he thought possible. Epic clusterfrick.
Search LinkedIn for at least 3 ex-employees who worked in Qatar for that company and get their stories.
If they don't want to talk that's a bad omen.
