Did we just see Jay play the long game?

Think everyone, including JJ, saw that Coleman was tiring and getting hit. The instinct is that he should have been replaced a couple batters before the HR.
But if we are going to go deep into post-season, and especially the CWS, we probably need Coleman at mid-season form.
So, did JJ just leave Coleman in to give him some extra experience and not worrying too much about whether we sweep or not? As much as we all would like a sweep it really doesn't matter whether we are the #1 team or end up at #3-4. All are national seeds that host a Super Regional. Your thoughts?

Anything to defend Jay. Zero accountability

I defend him 9/10 times but I won’t on him pitching Coleman today. For a coach who claims to play to win every game that wasn’t a play to win the game move.

We haven’t lost an SEC series yet. Go back to your hole of misery. He left him in a little too long but you also need him stretched out so it’s fine. Y’all acting like we just gave up a trip to Omaha because of it.

Yes, likely
But the football fans who watch baseball 2-3 weekend a year won’t agree with you

If he did, he’s dumb. Then again I don’t think in-game management is a strength of his

Have you considered the possibility that you’re just a bitch?

This can be done in game that we have a bigger lead. There’s no reason to be experimenting with a guy who has thrown 1 total inning in the past year in a 1 run conference game.

That may have been what he was going for, but the 7th inning was enough for that.
When he put the first guy on in the 8th that needed to be it. It was a dumb decision not to bring Collins in.
Because after all, you need to get Collins in a groove as well.

"Pinch hitting for Milazzo, Hayden Travinski."
Pretty good in game decision!

But ultimately did we win? He pushed the right buttons when it mattered, and that’s!!! what matters
Why are so many people so salty after a win. Yeah it was a close game, but thanks to Mr Travinski, we pulled it out… that’s a huge momentum builder for the remainder of the season.
(Long time lurker, first time poster… im not sure how to format or insert pictures or gifs; if someone would help me, I’ll give you 2 tickets to a baseball game in may, 6 rows up)

I agree: save that experimentation BS for a midweek game. Not in a game in which we need a sweep to stay in the top of the conference!

He’s still learning how to deal with our pitchers, but his buttons pushed in the batting order have been pretty good, be it a walk, a hit, or a bomb.
I agree he could be more attentive to pitchers and use them differently. Proud of Christian, Javen had no business out there. Collins got one batter, that’s the shite I don’t understand.
But his in game management of the hitters is getting better each game. The pinch hit of Hayden was his best button to push all season. Hopefully he has that mindset all the way to OMAHA. He knew Alex couldn’t bring 3 runs home so he picked the guy with the most likely ability to hit a bomb. And he did. That’s quality in game management, he’s definitely getting better. But I agree he’s not 100% but I’d give him a B+ for sure.

Your thoughts?
I don’t know. I hesitate to criticize the coaches because they know so much more than we do about the state of the players, the scouting on the opponent, and so forth. But I was extremely frustrated that he didn’t pull Coleman right before he faced the guy who hit the HR.
The last two pitches to the previous batter had to be strikes and they missed badly. At that point, your pitcher is done. If stretching him out is so important - more important than the game - why did they pull him after the HR? Maybe CJJ just wanted Coleman to feel the pressure again. Hell, I don’t know.

Not really. It was the right decision, but it was very obvious. You can’t send Milazzo to the plate because he has no power and you would need two hits with two outs. I don’t think we had another good bat in the dugout. On top of that, he’s a catcher. It was an extremely obvious decision. In fact, I’ve been wondering all season why Travinski has not been used as a PH or DH against LHP.

It was the right call for the long term plan whether you like it or not.
You holding him accountable for the Travinski pinch hit? Because he made that call too.

NCAA began seeding 1 through 16 a few years ago... so certainly does matter. We want #1
