Probably not. Good idea to have him be the designated catcher for Floyd on Saturdays.

Yeah it appears Floyd liked throwing to a much bigger target. Interesting

I don't think he's good enough defensively to be able to use back there with probably half the pitchers we have.

Neal and, especially Milazzo, are constantly diving after balls. Travinski's offense isn't good enough to make up for his poor defense.

Yea, that's my point. His defense is so atrocious I don't think his offense is good enough to make up for it, even if he can hit decent.

I guess if there's a game to do it, it would be today. I just don't think he can catch very many of our pitchers and he's horrible with runners on base.

He had some great cuts yesterday, I would like to see more. Looked like he was seeing it well.

He's always had good cuts. You pretty much know what you're getting with him. Decent offense and horrible defense. What else is there to see from him?

Not today.

Travinski works wonderful with Floyd because Floyd is a FB pitcher and I would love to see those two together from here on out.

Our remaining bullpen staff if very heavy offspeed and we need Neal or Milazzo behind the dish for them. I wish he could, but Travinski can’t handle them if they are burying breaking balls.

And this is coming from a big Travinski supporter. I was all for him yesterday in the in game thread and other threads. Like many other players on this team, Travinski has a role and he played it perfectly yesterday. Today his role is a PH if needed.

Not me. You are being fooled by what was an extremely easy assignment catching Floyd, who mostly throws fastballs up in the zone and whose breaking balls never get buried. Plus Floyd was on his game yesterday.

Today, we will have balls in the dirt by the dozen. Ole Miss will benefit from a lot of passed balls and wild pitches that would have been handled by Milazzo.

This is an exaggeration. His defense is meh to average. He did a great job receiving and framing yesterday, and blocked up the one spiked ball from Ack. He wasnt challenged yesterday, but he did exactly what he needed to do behind the dish, and had the best ABs of any catcher in the past 3 weeks.

Ole Miss didn't even have base runners on to be able to put pressure on Travinski.

Just want to be clear, I'm not against Travinski getting more playing time. I just don't think he can be used with more than half our pitchers or if we're playing a small ball team.

This board bitches about Milazzo's defense at times and he's one of the best defensive catchers in the nation. But, that's also just shows how hard it is to catch some of our pitchers. This place would have an absolute nuclear meltdown if we saw Travinski catching half our pitchers. It's also too easy to advance runners on him.

Yesterday was an easy task and I think people are forgetting everything he's shown us to be because of one game.

I don’t disagree with anything you just said. Milazzo is incredible behind the dish and Travinski had an easy assignment yesterday.

But he defense isn’t atrocious. His defense is below average when it come to blocking and throwing out runners. He does a good job using his big frame behind the plate and receiving/framing pitches.

I already said earlier in this thread he shouldn’t catch today. It’s just an exaggeration to call his defense atrocious when it’s just below average.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him today. Mainly since we already clinched the series. I guess it also depends on how long Neal will be out for as well (haven't checked or heard anything about that).

It'd be nice to be able to see him try and catch some of these other pitchers in a game like today where their (OM) pen is running a little more thin and we already have the series won. If Neal is out for an extended period, then I think there's no question Travinski has to be worked in for more PT.

Also, I do think his defense is bad, but maybe I'm being a little too harsh. I think my concern is more about some of our pitchers lack of control and his inability to be very effective against that. I'd have no problem with him catching a Skenes, Floyd or even Hurd. I know Hurd hasn't been great, but it doesn't seem like he throws a bunch of pitches that are difficult for catchers. He just throws pitches that get hammered.

We havnt really seen his defense in over two years really. I bet you he has improved drastically or Jay wouldn’t have put him back there for game 2

He looked good with Floyd, but Floyd style isn’t a lot of balls in the dirt, so it may have made him look really good, but he did look good….Getting more batting opportunities will improve his approach, and he has that power when he connects with one. So, I’m on board with him getting more opportunities…
