Anyone here been or know anything about Eugene Oregon. I know the University of Oregon is there but never been to the area before and know nothing about it. I think Florence, Oregon is supposed to be like an hour+ away and one of th best spots on the coast.

Any recommendations on cool bars, restaurants, things to do in the area. Have three days and nights there in May.

Eugene is a strange place. Downtown and campus (about a mile apart) are night and day. Downtown is full of homeless and drug addicts. Strange characters mumbling and shouting all over downtown. No police presence and not particularly safe at night.

Then you get to campus (about a mile walk from downtown) and it's a totally different atmosphere. It feels like any other small college town with normal people going about their business. Nice restaurants and bars around. Crazy how different the two areas felt with being so close.

Stay at the Inn on 5th if you can. Really nice and some cool bars/restaurants connected. Away from downtown nonsense.

Lots of good craft beer in Eugene.

Ninkasi Brewery is awesome and nice environment. Great food too

Eugene breweries

Sam's Place is good sports bar

Dinner - Sweetwater, King Estate, Marche
Lunch - Tracktown Pizza

You could watch single A baseball game Eugene Emeralds

Check out the Oregon book store and walk campus

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get out of Eugene so can't help there. I enjoyed Eugene despite all the filth and junkies downtown.

I've grabbed lunch in Eugene passing through down to Crater Lake. It was a nice enough city, but I have no advice for there. The coast however is absolutely worth the trek over.

Yachats, Thors Well, Cape Perpetua Overlook... all of that area is amazing.

I Second staying at / near 5th street market. The market has shops and stuff to do nearby. If inn at 5th is booked try the graduate or the Gordon. Best sushi in Eugene is right there, called sushi pure. Park nearby (walkable) called skinner butte which is a nice little hike. There are some decent outdoor music events at local breweries in downtown (beergarden is a cool place) if you are there on weekends, and the beers are always great. If you want a nice hike near town try Spencer butte or mount pisgah.

If you are able to drive further and it’s a clear day in the coast I also second yachats, especially cape perpetua. If I’m in yachats I typically eat at ona for lunch if it’s clear and go see perpetua, it’s incredible if it’s clear. Enjoy

only stayed one night for a show at autzen but we had fun. Stayed at the timbers which is a renovated motel and it was great. Very cool place and funky like I like.

the only meal we had that I remember was at a waffle place downtown called off the waffle and it was fantastic. Eugene is very nice and we enjoyed our stay

Go up the hill and see where Steve Prefontaine died. There is a little memorial on the side of the street where people who idolize him leave running trophies, singlets, beer cans, etc.
