It doesn't make sense....three healthy fig trees (North La), and it appears the cold snap about 3 weeks ago killed them? They had green leaves and, of course, all the leaves shriveled up and died. Been waiting since for new leaves to appear, but not a one. Cut and scratched a few limbs and they all appear dead. Anyone else lose fig trees lately? Suckers live all winter and can't handle a light spring freeze?

Leave em be, mine did the same thing and I saw my first green leaf today

Seems I read somewhere that because they were already green they had sap in the limbs and branches unlike when it freezes in the winter and they are dormant, should still come back but might not produce for a year or so, something about this years figs come off of last years new growth??

I have a red maple that seems to have died the same way.
Had a few little leaves starting to come out early March, then the cold snap. Got to about 25 or so one night and sub freezing a couple of other nights.
Now all the new leaves fell off on that tree like so many others in our yard. Anything from crape myrtle to tea olives ,etc all lost their new leaves.
But this one maple, we have many other maples that are fine, appears completely dead now.

I think it got all the fig trees. They aren’t going to make any figs this year

As long as they didn't freeze underground it will be fine. It would probably be a good idea to prune off the dead wood though. It is common to prune figs down to a stump every year to keep their size in check so an extreme prun8ng won't hurt them.

Don't give up on them yet. I had my 30 yr. old fig tree come down with some type disease that destroyed the old growth in about 3 years so I broke out the chain saw and cut them down near the ground.

New growth sprouted up and my fig tree is once again back and healthy with good growth and producing more and more every year as it matures again.

I lost a 7 year old fig tree. I didn't even think I needed to cover it because it had survived multiple days in the 20s.

I'm in Jxn, MS and mine did the same, but green growth is starting back now. I'd give them a few more weeks.
