Do people think the Coaches thought Mauck was ready in 2001?

Given all the talk about JJ and whether he was ready, do you think Saban and the other coaches really thought Mauck was ready?

No one was expecting Jefferson to light things on fire, but people feel that if a player has no accountability, which Lee had prior to tonight, than he won't improve.

It was obvious several players were getting frustrated with the fact Lee was able to make mistake after mistake and have no accountability, yet if they dropped a few passes, missed a few holes, fumbled a ball, than they were benched, even if they were the better player. That is what some of us wanted to see. Just give JJ a chance, if he's not ready, then go back to Lee, but don't just give him a blank check.

I don't recall any WRs being benched for dropping passes, and they've dropped quite a few.

You probably didn't see WR's benched for dropping passes but I'm sure you've seen the coaching staff get in their arse! However I have yet to see JL make 1 of those infamous pick6's and the coaching staff get in his.

They console him and try to put the blame on EVERYONE outside of the kid. That's not fair to the other players. Miles has said that the defense didn't do its job and even went as far as to say that he was upset with some of the veterans and the way they played after the UF loss. He laid blame to the WR's for dropping "some key passes" and even credited Byrd with JL's 1st INT in the 'Bama game.

What's crazy is the fact that he has never said ANYTHING about JL's performance other than the fact that he "has to play better". He consoles the kid after every mistake. Yes, he is the QB and is a young kid but so are the OTHER players. They are ALL still kids and JL having 1 or 2 years less experience does not excuse him from the SAME treatment as the rest of the team.

Pick6 against Troy.

This is silly on so many levels.

First there are about 12 people on the team who have had the opportunity to catch a pass this year. Not as many called upon or capable of throwing one. WR's and RB's can earn or lose playing time based on performance much easier than a QB can. Its the nature of the position.

Secondly,
in 2001 MM only had a significant role in only one game that year. It was the SECCG, and basically he ran the ball up the gut the whole time. Phat Phil was too dumb to make a defensive adjustment, and when the LB's and secondary got sucked in trying to stop MM from running the ball MM completed what 3 or 4 passess set up by the running game?

Thirdly, MM was like 25 years old at the time. There is something to be said for maturity at the QB position.

Goodness can we stop with all the whinning about JL not getting enough arse chewings. Pick something a little more significant to cry about.

When have our coaches EVER blamed someone else for Lee's mistakes??? If you're talking about Miles' comment about Byrd dropping that ball, that is one WEAK argument. Byrd dropped it, that is a fact. Miles pointed that out, big deal.

And I love how you say the coaches "console" him after an INT.

They're not consoling him, they're TEACHING him, telling him what he did wrong. But you're right, maybe they should just yell at him and not tell him what he did wrong, that's a great idea.

When he came in the SECCG in December? Uh, yeah, I think so.

He was a mature kid who had played catcher in the minor leagues (that means he can throw quick and hard in a clutch whenever he wants to), and he was one hell of a runner. As soon as he got in, the team had veer plays already designed specifically for him, and he ran them to perfection.
