I recnetly rewatched S1 and I don't think the ending was near as bad as I felt it was in real time. We get answers to the tuttles and the schools and everything that had been going on. Sure it may have been "quick", but I mean how else should it have been? The whole series had led up to this conclusion, then it concludes. I don't think, on the rewatch anyway, that it felt forced or too quick. Then after the final action we get the denouement final act of marty and rust tying up their loose ends.

We have all done things for love that we regret but shooting a President to impress Jody Foster has got to be extremely embarrassing and probably not worth it in retrospect
