If you find something and need another person to share costs, let me know. I’m in the West Monroe area and currently hunt public land. I bow hunt only, and I’d like to get my daughter (11 years old) out there eventually.

Just lost my lease after spending a couple of years getting things right. Liming fields, cutting roads - ton of work. My son was just starting to get into hunting. I'll be starting the search all over again.
Check the corporate timberland companies websites. And work any word of mouth contacts you have.
If I find a large tract that would require multiple members, I'll post in this thread.

I’m also interested in getting on a lease myself. On average if you had to spitball a figure, what would you say the average cost for an average sized deer lease would be? Location is East Texas or West Louisiana

It all depends. Low end would be $750 or so. Buddy just got on one in west Louisiana for $900. All pines and the timber company sprays the hell out of everything not a pine tree It’s DMAP, you get three doe tags and can shoot three bucks. First buck can be anything and afte that has to be five point or better. Never heard of five point or better, guess they are trying to save the 4 points? BUT… you can kill one less than five points for your second or third buck but you forfeit your doe tags. Essentially you can shoot 3 spikes if you want
No idea why the club would pay to be on DMAP

I’m so blessed to have family property to hunt. It always rubs me wrong when I hear of folks dumping all kinds of time and money into leased land and then losing it.
Good luck bro.
Good luck bro.

Same here . I’ve been hunting our family property for over 20 years and living on it for 10. Leases are getting harder to come by for the working man and even harder to keep if they have a decent deer population. I hunt with a friend in woodville and it’s crazy what people will pay to hunt nowadays. I remember my dad leasing 100 acres of hardwoods in Gloster years ago for $8 an acre. That property is in the low $20 an acre range for hardwood cutover.

A lot of rich folks are starting but up a lot of land in Wilkinson county, it’s getting harder and harder to make it as a non wealthy hunter

For real. Would be miserable to do work and management and get the boot. So glad i have been fortunate to not ever have to deal with that. I dont have a ton of land. But me and my uncle have 200 acres on the river with a small camp i deer and turkey hunt. Couldnt imagine getting a call saying "sorry lease is up find somewhere else"

I am in the very early stages of developing this myself. Literally just put out a trail cam yesterday and as I was driving by the property, I saw about 5 or 6 deer.
Going to leave the cam out there for a month or so and see where it goes.
