2014 F150 - hard time starting after gas added...

I have a 2014 F150 with 212,000. Never a problem. For the last few months it has a problem starting after a gas fill-up. I have been just keeping the truck running while filling up, but I forget sometimes. Anyways, the starter goes and the thing will not "turn over". I have to pump the gas pedal a few times to ever get it started. Its getting worse. Never a problem anytime else, just when I add gas. Any suggestions? And yes, the engine light has been on a while (off and on). Thanks!

There is an emission valve that causes that when it sticks open. Just google your truck model and the issue and you will find which valve goes out.

Not sure if this is your problem but in a 2010 F250 diesel my truck started hard and then one day wouldn’t start after gassing up after letting it get real low. Turns out there is a valve or something that gets old and stuck when dried. Let’s go much air into line. Mechanic fixed it and said never let it get below 1/4 tank. Haven’t had a problem since and never let it get much below 1/4z

I have a 2014 F150. I had the exact same issue. The shop replaced a charcoal filter on the tank. I think I caused the scrubber system to crap out by adding gas routinely from jugs to the truck. Whenever I filled my boat up I would pour the extra in my truck and I don't think it allowed the system to vent properly when the funnel was down deeper than a gas pump nozzle would be inserted.

My 2009 f150 I had did what you are describing. The guy who worked on it asked if I top it off every time I fill up.
I said, yeah, I usually try to round it up to the even dollar.
He said never do that, when the gas pump clicks, hang it up. It was a sensor on the charcoal filter that gets flooded with gas and messes it up.
I now have a 2014 f150 like yours. 145,000 miles. I listened to his advice and have no problems.

F150 2009 to 2014, Evap Fuel Valve or purge valve, hard to start after fueling up
That's my luck, I had the 2009 and now have a 2014.

Happened on my F250, took 5mins to replace, it’s located near the firewall.

Evap purge valve needs replacing
Same thing happened on a 2013 Ford Edge. Exhaust smells rich is another symptom.
Replaced it and same thing happened a month or 2 after, autozone replaced it with warranty so make sure they put in your car info when you buy it.

I had the same problem with a 2004 GMC after filling up. My mechanic told me it the charcoal filter was saturated with fuel.

That’s exactly what it is. My ford fusion company vehicle is in the shop now for the evaporator purge valve. When I would leave it running while getting gas it would sputter. If I forgot and turned off, it would be difficult getting it to start again. Robinson Bros. is charging $590 + tax to fix.
