My buddy’s father-in-law passed away and now the family wants to get rid of his huge collection of trophies.

There is. I believe most are based out West. They’re used to decorate high dollar lodges. I assume non hunters usually buy them.

Nah, Taxidermy is pretty sought after, even bland stuff. As long as it is in good condition and OK work there is a business looking to hang it 12 feet up there wall somewhere.

Truly bad stuff isn't going to be bought, but that guy from California that just bought a ranch is Utah and opened up a hipster style bar doesn't have a clue what a deer is suppose to look like.
Some mounts might not sell for more that what they cost to get mounted, but they do have some value. Good stuff ends up with all the bass pros, cabelas and chain restaurants that pop up all over the south but lots of times they try to get them as "donations" and thank you with a plaque nobody can read.

What kind of trophies does he have?
If they’re all good elk, mule deer, moose, sheep, African stuff that will go for something.
I highly doubt you will get anything for run of the mill whitetails and bass

Before you look for a buyer, if he has any “different” animal mounts, for example some sheep or African animals, save yourself a headache and research to make sure they aren’t protected species nowadays. There are some animals (or parts of animals) that are protected to the point you’re risking big time charges trying to sell them.

That being the case, Xenon's bobcat should bring top dollar.

I have been in the market for a really really badly done duck as a joke piece...

Yes...
My dad used to be the attorney for a family's local sporting good business, and when they shut it down, they gave him all the mounts in the store for his office. When people come into our office, they always comment, your dad must be a big hunter?!?
Anyway, you see them all the time going for decent money at local estate sales.
