WARNING: Demetrius Byrd is an extremely funny guy who enjoys making factual statements in humorous ways.

quote:

Wide receiver Demetrius Byrd spoke more bluntly about Lee's psyche.

"We have to keep him in a comfort zone," Byrd said. "Because if he gets out of that comfort zone, he'll go out there and throw eight interceptions."

Tell us how you really feel D!!!

This is sad...really sad..for a senior to say something so negative about a redshirt freshman is pretty bad.

It is very interesting that the Byrd man fails to point out that he should have caught the first INT last year. And don't give me that "the ball was behind him" shite...it hit both of his hands in a catchable position.

I think Byrd may be a little bitter that his money year is going down the toilet with Lee at QB.

This is not a good sign. Miles should bench him for a game for that comment. Only problem is that Miles set the example by throwing Bryd under the bus initally. If there is a problem you need to keep it in the locker room and out of the papers. This makes me very very nervous.

Maybe so...but he needs to keep that to himself.

I mean no one wants a guy who is out there just for himself, but is out there for the team.

There is one thing that disturbed me about watching the Bama game again last night. The body language of all the receivers was awful and the 5-7 drops they had may have been a result of this.

Eh.. if he shows up at the Combine at 6'2"+ and runs similar to the 4.32 he ran earlier this year, he'll get his money.

As for the quote, I'm sure it was meant completely as a joke. Byrd's status as a great teammate has never been called into question.

I think its possibly a knock on the coaches more than Lee. He said "we have to keep him in a comfort zone", which insinuates that the play calling hasn't been something he's comfortable with.

I like Byrd and his open style of interviews. Byrd seems like one of the more easy going and funny guys on the team so I'm sure Lee knows where he's coming from.

Don't overreact to this and make me sorry I posted it.

Honestly, based on the way he played, the effort he gives, and his body language on the field, in light of these comments, I might give Toliver more of Byrd's time. I mean why not? If the guy is going to say this about his QB, why does he deserve to play as much?

It doesn't take a genius to see that Byrd, Lafell, et al are totally put out with Lee. Just seeing the body language in the Alabama game, the looks of frustration, the head shaking etc, it is clear that they are really frustrated, and it looks to be frustration directed at Lee personally.

that's what the combine is for. he will get his money if he shows up in the combine and the scouts like him. there is little question he can play and senior bowl and combine will offer him the exposure he needs to get the pay day he deserves. i can see how he would be frustrated but he will get his payday regardless

Lafell should know better. What about his performances last year.

I came on this board and mercilessly defended Lafell and I have continued that with Lee, because I see that both have talent.

But this is really ironic that Lafell is bitching about this when he dropped at least two passes last week and dropped multiple passes last year that were very easy catches.

Lafell is probably pretty happy being the second most productive WR in the SEC.

If I was JL I would nail Byrd in the nuts with a hard-thrown pass!
If this statment won't make him hit his receivers in the numbers, then nothing will.

I was also one of LaFell's big supporters, and also believe that Lee's struggles are just growing pains and that he has a lot of potential.

But I really haven't seen LaFell act angry toward Lee at all.

Byrd has seemed frustrated, but that was even when we were winning because, in my opinion, Crowton didn't seem to be trying very hard to get him involved.

Just my take, but I can understand why everyone has some things to be frustrated about.

He's just speaking his mind. He's a playmaker and isn't getting the ball, frankly he should be upset. And just because he's making the comment doesn't mean he's about himself or the money maybe just maybe he wants to win and Lee's not helping the cause right now.

Go re-watch the tape of the Bama game. His body language suggested that he didn't even want to be out there on the field. It was ridiculous. And I did catch a few situations where he was yelling at Lee.

Maybe that is true. But the guy is a senior calling out a redshirt freshman with an already fragile psyche. Why not try a different approach and try to build up the guy's confidence?
