Fence dispute help… Long

Never had to deal with this before so seeing what y’all think. Will try to make long story short. Neighbor fence co changed fence line and now trying to change our fence to match.
Hurricane laura 2020 damaged all fences on property, blew up parts of it. Our insurance company would only pay for 3 sides since neighbor said that side was his. We offered to help pay at the time but he didn’t want to fix it yet. His side was leaning in portions and had missing boards but did not completely fall down.
We rebuild the fences that insurance company paid for. The gate portion of our fence on the driveway, ended with a metal pole and one more board that edged right up against the existing fence but didn’t tie into it.
Old neighbor moved, new neighbor came/left and didn’t fix it. Now the 3rd owner finally decides to fix it but didn’t give us any warning. The workers come while we are at work today, pull into our driveway without permisssion (not a big deal) to do the work. Neighbor courtesy would have been nice. Then they replant the poles and concreted them already… went from 4x4’s to metal poles but seemed to have not accounted for that size difference and changed the line.
So instead of just making the line to match the end of our fence like the old fence did; they remove one of our boards and then tell my wife that they will have to saw our posts some, alter our metal brackets to match this new magical line that encroaches past the old fence line. All my wife did was to ask them not to tie into our fence and they said they would have to alter our fence in order to do that… after they already removed one of our boards.
Another way I know they altered the line is that there were border rocks all against the fence line. Now it looks like at least 1/3 of the rocks will be on their side of the fence when before there were no rocks on their side.
I don’t have a survey of property lines done but I have lot dimensions from when I bought the house. Shouldn’t I be able to say you can not touch our fence until there is a formal survey in place? That they can build the fence right up against ours like it used to be but can’t tie into it or certainly remove any of it without permission? Seems to me for now I have the fence people for trespassing and destructing private property.
Going to try to talk to neighbor, all they have to do is change the line a couple of inches to butt against our board. If not then I will have to get a survey done and say you can’t touch our fence until formal boundaries are drawn?
What say you?

I say, do not allow them to connect to your fence.

That was the whole point, but now they have started taking apart my fence which is what I think is on my property, to match this new line not the original fence line. Who gave them the right to do that?

Nice try

Talking to your neighbor is definitely the way to go. Tell him to consider withholding payment until they fix it.

Long driveway, fence border of their backyard starts on my left parallel to driveway and goes to end of back of my backyard, it intersects perpendicular to gate and fence separating my driveway to backyard and my new fence at back of property. They removed one of my boards at end of fence that hold the gate that was perpindicular to the existing fence, saying it is magically too far now

I'd tell the neighbor I don't appreciate hiring people to trespass on your property and alter your fence without at least asking permission. I'd let him know that I'm having a survey done and if their fence is on your property that you're moving the fence and charging him or he can make the fence contractors do it.

So If I’m reading you right…. They removed one board ? 6 inches?
Personally I wouldn’t give a crap .
Yes, a call would have been polite. So you realize the headaches this guy can cause you over the rest of your time in that house? I would just say F-it.
Every time you turn the radio on the cops wil be coming if you piss off the Karen next door. I party too much at my house for that.
Just my 2 cents.

And they’re saying our post brackets after the board they removed will be in the way too which should be impossible based on the previous fence/property line…Because it is clearly in our yard. If they had just matched the dead end of our fence and neighbor asked, none of this would be an issue. They only had 2 points they had to line up, the rest wouldn’t matter because it wouldn’t connect anywhere else

I agree with mullet. This juice ain't worth the squeeze. Any fence contractor worth a damn has a metal detector and finds the metal rods in the ground marking the property corners before doing anything. You might find out your post is on his piece...

Before you go into battle make damn sure you are right, are you 100% sure your fence is on your side of property line, and just because that is where the fence has historically been does not mean it was accurate
But regardless, talk to your neighbor, show them your concerns, let them communicate with their fence contractor

I’m not, but I want to say you can’t dismantle part of the fence I paid for unless I have a survey done to see if my post is encroaching vice versa. I don’t want some over zealous inspector or buyer of the house to find out the property lines are wrong and get real petty if the fence is off

Were they wrong to not inform you? Absolutely
Is it worth it to start a feud with your neighbor over a foot and tying into your fence? Absolutely not
Be the bigger person here, you’ll never regret that later in life.

My FIL says if they tie into your fence then you can be forced to help take ownership. I don’t care too much about the inches but they shouldn’t have to manipulate stuff in order to not tie in… you shouldn’t have to damage my fence to make new one fit when it wasn’t a problem before.
Still waiting for them to show up to talk to them. I really don’t want it to be a big deal, just really frustrating

Call a surveyor to come find the corner stakes.

They've touched YOUR property, so tell them to stop or call the police.

If it's been established that it is YOUR fence that they touched, they should get a survey to confirm everything.

Have your neighbor pay the several hundred dollars for the survey.

That can definitely be the case. I'm just saying I wouldn't allow my neighbor to just freely adjust my current fence unless there is definitive proof that the fence is over their property line.
We had a fencing issue in our neighborhood a few years ago. From what I understand, I can do whatever I want with a fence that's on MY side if I don't own the fence, but I can't just go ahead and start removing boards. Fences on a property line are essentially shared property. It's pretty confusing.
For me, this all boils down to having communication between neighbors. And again, if this is indeed on top of the neighbor's property, they have every right to remove what currently exists and establish a new fence on the correct property line. If the neighbor wants to do all these changes, they should take the proper steps to do everything they want to do.

And I would have replaced all four sides at once anyway.
But I would defintely want him to tie into mine for a seamless as possible look.
