I was too little for Lyle Mouton but I remember watching the 1991 college World Series highlights on ESPN classic after school and he hit some bombs.
Vs

This was gorilla ball at its finest when he step up to the plate. I never seen someone hit so many home runs as a kid than he did.

With equal bats I’d say Mouton

Larsons compact quick swing was glorious. I’d pick him . Mouton for distance though. Very long swing

Mouton for distance, Larson for consistency. He hit 40 in his last season & came in second to Berkman. Story goes that when Mouton was trying to decide to play either baseball or stick with basketball, Brown told him "Lyle, there are hundreds of 6'5" guards in the NBA. There are no 6'5" outfielders in MLB". And the rest is history.

This. One of the absolutely most crushed balls I've ever seen.

However I'd give it to Larson. Lyle was very much feast or famine

No cheating (though I'm sure some undoubtedly will), but guess how many home runs Mouton hit in 1991.

Secondly, guess how many home runs Mouton was behind the player who led LSU in HR in 1991.

I'll add something else to consider.

I went with Lyle probably because he's a little closer to my age (7 years older than Larson), but if you look at their MLB stats, they were very similar.

Mouton 22 HR in 890 plate appearances or 1 HR every 40.45 PA

Larson 8 HR in 332 plate appearances or 1 HR every 41.50 PA

Derby could go either way.

I'd like to see Jared Jones with the Old bats vs Lyle Mouton.

This kid can fricking crush a ball

Belle had 381 HR in 6676 plate appearances or 1 HR every 17.52 PA. More than twice the rate of Mouton and Larson.

The bat/ball combo that Mouton used in 1991 is not that different than the bat/ball combo that Jones is using now.

Regardless, it would be a close HR derby between those two. Mouton is the better overall hitter, at least right now in Jones' young career, but their swing profiles are pretty similar.

Steroids or no steroids? There was rumors about Larson, don’t think anything was ever said about Mouton

To my knowledge, the only LSU hitter that was named to the Mitchell Report was Armando Rios.

But I could be way wrong about that.
