Sam Bennett the US am champ finished round two double, double, bogey. quad. He also had another double earlier on the back. The scores are really high.

Did he have a practice round? It’s a quirky track on the back

Truth. We were trying to figure out ways to change it and there isn’t much you can do. You can move the tee boxes to the left of the cart path, and make the fairway more bowl like so it doesn’t run through. Not sure what else can be done.

Last time I played it, I think I hit 7i, 7i, 56*, 2 putt. Was a crappy way to end a round.

I’m guessing he made a 8 by trying to take driver over the trees and couldn’t find it?

Maybe take out a few trees on the corner so a 3w is an option?

I enjoy oakbourne on occassion. But would be a miserable member course to play regularly

There is OB up there so that could be an option as well. It should have been playing somewhat downwind.

The wind direction has been completely opposite than their practice rounds on sat and Sunday and it was blowing pretty good yesterday. They also have the course playing 71 and Theo pushed some tee boxes way back. For example the tee box for 8 is the ladies tee on number 3.

Number 11 is playing a par 4

Why? To “protect the course”?

yes. if you havent played with high level amateurs lately you would be shocked at how far they drive it nowadays. i played college golf back in the mid 2000's and am not a short knocker by any means. We played with some of the Michigan guys on Saturday and they were outpacing my drives by 30+ yards. they were greenside on 1,2, in the greenside bunkers and greenside on 6, in the greenside bunkers on 10 and drove the green on 14. it's insane how far these kids hit it. i asked their coach where their swing speeds are averaging and he said on course around 123-126 which is on par with top level pga speeds.

with that said, they cant shape shots for shite like us who used to rely on shaping shots and keeping trajectory lower. these kids just bomb it as far as they can now with no concern of course management. it's a completely different game now on that level.

You are absolutely right. I watched a few of the college matches on Golf Channel and they bomb it off the tee then hope to have low iron/wedge in. Most cannot putt nearly as well as they should.

Oh trust me, I have. I can nuke a ball and they pound it past me. Still, I don’t understand the protect the course idea. Who cares what they shoot if they’re competing against each other?

i'm with you. i'm guessing he also thought the longer course would help UL. i know they'll play those longer tees from time to time.

i'm watching this hole 9 feed. not sure what is tripping up everyone off the tee. with this wind direction they should be a little downwind hitting 8 iron-ish
