Genie is great...learn how to use it
Best thing Disney has done for rides

I thought the reservation system was great. Pay extra to skip the 3 hour line with all the poors? frick and yes, please.
The old system was great if you knew how to do it. Now, you gotta pay to get a fast pass, and you cannot get a fast pass for that ride again that day.
It fricking blows

OP-how many days are you staying? Express pass at Universal is nice and you could easily spend many days between parks letting your child do everything they want multiple times. If they have liytle interest in Disney let them geek out at Universal instead of spending way more dollars to include Disney.

The reservation system is not the same as the fast pass/genie - so what are you talking about?

Went to Orlando a couple of months ago for a conference and the family came along. We went to the Magic Kingdom. No way I would go without the Genie+. I saw those poors sitting in those lines and it was miserable looking. I even let the old lady buy a couple of additional lightning lanes or whatever they're called in the app to save 30-45 minutes in other rides.
I'd pay just about anything to stay out of lines. Hell, I might jerk Pluto off at the gate just to get out of lines. Hate lines baw.

Your son already gave you the answer. You're going to spend thousands of dollars, and you get to avoid Disney, do what he asked for. He's handing you the win. Take the win.
Sounds like you're divorced, and it seems like 80% of the reason to go to Disney is so (ex)-wives can post about it, like 30A.

We are staying for five days. I was thinking of doing two parks in one day Universal and Adventure twice, Volcano Bay once, go to CityWalk at night to eat at Vivo, Antojitos, and Bob Marley’s restaurant for dinner. For our last day, I wanted to go to Siesta Key Beach for a day before we head back.

This is where I am confused. I haven’t been to Disney since 2003. So, I have to make reservations and buy lightning lanes/Genie? I was under the impression that if I didn’t have the reservation and pay for lightning lane/Genie, that particular ride would be full and we would not be able to get on it. I’m just trying to understand how the process works before I spend a lot of money on Magic Kingdom tickets.
As far as other posters bringing up the woke stuff at Disney goes or even Universal, we are going the last week of May because I’m not about to go to each theme park for pride month in June lol
For the posters who had a positive experience with the reservations and lightning lanes/Genie

No it’s because I don’t want them to turn my kids into bigs Ole queers or trannies.

I’m married and sorry I kept saying “I” when it comes to me taking my son but I am the one planning everything being I went to all the parks multiple times growing up and this also my wife’s first time going to Orlando too. This trip is more for my son to take him to Universal and experience Disney. The only park I like at Disney growing up was Magic Kingdom and even though he doesn’t say much about going to Disney, I thought he would still enjoy Magic Kingdom.

We went to Disney in March 2022 (last year)

Fast pass worked great, so naturally they got rid of it.
The longer you stay in the park, the more you buy, whether it’s food, drinks or merchandise. Disney knows this, but it doesn’t seem to be working out for them given the layoffs.
Last time I went to universal, which was a decade ago we did the express pass, and knocked both parks out on everything we wanted to ride in a day.
Disney needs to scrap their current system. Last time we went you simply could not get a reservation on Rise of the Resistance.

I know people who couldn’t ride Guardian of the Galaxy and I saw the ride on YouTube and that ride looks awesome. I hate that it is at Epcot though.

We waited 3 1/2 hours to ride that - but it was worth it if you’re a Star Wars fan - I’m not but my kids are so it was worth it

Last two times i went I didn’t even buy the genie and did fine.

I have no idea how the new system works because I loved the old system. I could run around the park while the family waited on a bench and get multiple fast passes at a time then walk leisurely to our rides/ride other things in between. For free. I don't like paying for each item on lighting whatever/genie plus. Also I am just plain mad that alot of the Disney "magic" is gone and it makes me sad.
I have however paid $100/person or whatever it is to have the express pass at Universal not staying on site and it was well worth it. It worked very well to skip lines but this was precovid so idk if it has changed (more people in line). Plus I was able to get restaurant reservations (we do sit down for a rest/air conditioner break) without all the drama.

I dont take the kids to Disney b/c I dont vist places that support pedos.

Why are you funding the groomers? The people who profit at Disney hate us.

Last time we went to Disney was after it reopened after COVID but before Genie was rolled out. There were no fastpasses or ways to schedule rides ahead of time. But! The ban on international travelers was still in effect and Disney was keeping attendance at each park well below capacity. We were rewarded for getting to the parks early and we got to hit all the big rides.
The one ride that was different was Rise Of The Resistance. Twice a day, they’d give tickets away online to whoever could reserve them fastest. Luckily we got on. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan so I wasn’t too impressed but the kids seemed to like it.
