You don't get it. No one had a problem with Thudd getting the sword, because he was treated like literally any other character.
Nowadays, Thudd would have a soliloquy about how he doesn't get anything because he's a marginalized group, etc. And *then* he'd get the sword because he deserves it and will make all things right.
Having a minority character doesn't make it woke. Having a minority character's entire personality and raison d'etre be based around their minority status is what makes it woke.
