AmEx Checking Account

I'm considering enrolling in the new checking account product from AmEx that includes a 1% interest rate and allows you to earn membership reward points on debit card use. Has anyone enrolled or have any experience with the product? Only downside I see is that there is no in-person banking, but my use of that at my current bank is negligible.

If it's anything like their credit cards and savings account it should be great

No, ability to make it a joint account currently. Great other than that.

I have it
I never ordered checks for it and I still have chase for ATM (although supposedly certain stms you can use). Might get checks
Basically I put weekly direct deposit of certain bills and it comes right out. Easy to transfer but takes a few days.
Instant transfer into my savings-
Overall love it and Amex card and savings account

Supposedly that's changing
I transfer freely between our joint savings and the checking just in my name

There are local banks and credit unions with much better checking and savings rates plus full services.
There are digital banks with higher rates and more services.

If you’re in DFW… neighborhood credit union is offering 4% on checking.
SOFI is offering 2.50 on checking and 3.75 on savings.

I opened one. Put $2500 in it just to test it since there is an ATM right by my house. Chase doesn't have one.
Using it as a separate savings acct. Haven't really done a transaction with it. Need to figure out how to order checks.

I’m a fan of AmEx, however, I switched to SOFI several months ago and haven’t been disappointed.

If you double dip with the sofi card they have sofi plus turns the 2% to 3% rewards for 1 yr/36k

Wait you get AMEX points for a debit card? I have a platinum and green but might have to add the debit card as well.

You do but depends on transaction. ACH I believe is a negative. Your spend is likely already captured if youre running it through your Amex's

Yes. On purchases using your debit card. I believe it's 1 point for every $2. Not great, but better than nothing. It is intriguing because I have a monthly expense I usually put on my AmEx that will soon move to a 3% fee for credit cards, but no fee for debit cards.
