I got a reservation here after trying several restaurants for a few weeks prior. I wanted something late afternoon to sit and take a break, get a meal since we would be staying in the park until 9.

We sit down in the restaurant and the amount riff-raff in there was amazing. My wife said earlier in the day that it would be cool if everyone had to wear their occupation on their shirts. (of course just joking) So I'm looking around and I'm just surrounded by trashy people. I'm thinking how the hell do these people afford this. This is a one time deal for us. It's a cool place for the kids to get to meet the characters and sit relax and take a long break. The food is buffet style and maybe and I mean maybe one notch above Ryan's/Golden Corral. The bill comes and before tip it was $226.. 2 adults a 14 year old and a 4 year old. No alcohol. A water, 2 lemonades and a root beer. $226 son!!!
So about that time as I'm getting the bill the guy next to us with the neck tattoos up to his chin, the half-inch diamond stud earrings gets in a huge argument with a member from his table, I'm guessing an aunt or grandmother. She is pissed why they would pick such an expensive place. They end up leaving and not eating at all. It was a table of 9. Hopefully they didn't have a reservation, if so someone got stuck with $90 for cancelling.
I must have seen 3 other people that looked this guy. I mean, I know you can't judge a book by the cover but this guy is not an attorney. Maybe he owns a string of tattoo parlors. I'm middle of middle class. I'm in investments/insurance and my wife is an ATC and I'm like fack this is expensive. At the end, it's a one time deal at the restaurant and it's about the kids getting to hang with all the Disney characters. My 4 year old loved it and my 14 year old played along and didn't try to act too cool.

Earlier, we got a reservation to Oga's in Galaxy Edge. We got the Charcuterie board which I would recommend against but the drinks and atmosphere were awesome!! That's a place to try at least one time.

Character meals are the biggest ripoff at Disney World and doing them in the park as opposed to a resort is even worse. Doing them for breakfast over lunch or dinner is borderline insanity to spend that much on the exact same breakfast items you can get at almost any quick service location.

Agreed. It's a one time thing and I'm OK with doing it but holy shite, if you're someone doing that multiple times, I don't care how much money you have, that's insane.

This past time, the insane amount they have gone up has finally gotten to me. I bought a margarita in a 10 ounce plastic cup and it was $21 before tip. Oga' s for 4 drinks, 2 alcohol 2 non with a charcuterie board was a cool $100.

Yeah last time we went the character meals were still closed due to covid, I definitely do not miss the small fortune you have to spend on those meals
My kids are older though
We hit the hole in the wall places in the park to eat
The Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom is still our go to, not that bad price wise and the food is actually decent
We ate at the Toy Story place at Hollywood Studios, we couldn't get into the Star Wars cantina place

Lunch is a better value and is more practical for a multitude of reasons.

First, it doesnt make much sense to spend your morning sitting down eating a breakfast when a park is open rather than in some of the shortest waits of the day. if you're in a park in the morning, take advantage of lower crowds. Second, sitting down at lunch when people could use a rest break makes sense from a scheduling standpoint and avoids multiple stops throughout the day. In the morning most people should be rested and ready to go so most it makes alot of sense to eat a quick, healthy and sustainable breakfast on the go on in the room, hit the parks hard in the morning and then sit for lunch if a character meal is a must do.

OR, just meet the characters in the parks and still eat great.

I'd argue that for the money Tiffins is a MUCH superior dining option at a similar price point than Tusker House and you can get better character interaction at the meet & greets than the could of seconds or minutes they stop by the table during a character meal.

We did Oga’s a couple weeks ago and recommend it as well. The drinks were a little sweet for me, but it was still good and they had fun drinks for the kids.

Only caveat is half the tables are standing only. Not sure if you can specify or ask for a booth beforehand, but don’t just expect to automatically have a place to sit down and relax.

By the way, the restaurants at Hollywood Studios are probably the weakest of all the parks.

It’s called Hollywood and Slime for a reason.

Never eat a sit down meal in Hollywood. Take the gondola to Topolinos at The Riviera or take a bus to some other resort with a much better meal. You could have eaten at a fine dining restaurant for not much more than that price.

The best thing in Hollywood to eat is the Ronto Roaster in Galaxy’s Edge. I am not a vegetarian but I actually prefer the veggie version that has a spear of zucchini. The spicy chickpea sauce it comes with is amazing.

Hollywood and Vine is trashy. Ballers eat at Brown Derby.

Being serious Hollywood and Vine is bad. Go to Sci fi dine in or 50s prime time. Both are much better and are more fun for kids.

I feel like Magic Kingdom is the weakest. With only Skipper Canteen having inventive dishes. The stuff at Be our Guest or the palace is the save as most other character meals.
Mama Melrose is better than Tony's.
Sci fi and 50s have decent food. Brown Derby has good food. The back lot counter service gives free refills. That's a bonus.

But animal kingdom and Epcot have the best food in the parks.

I've only had the Monte Cristo at Riviera so haven't tried much there. We prefer dining in the loop. Especially at Victoria and Alberts. But we don't take the kids there.

I kept hitting these for reservations and could never get in. Well, I did for the 50s Prime Time but we have eaten there at least twice plus we made it a tradition to get a drink from the 50s bar every time we leave. We get drinks with the Glow Ice cubes and get Shirley Temple's for the kids with Glow Ice Cubes.

We ate there in 2019 with the meal plan and I wasnt impressed. But then again, I thought Chef Mickey was Golden Corral quality as well, for $250 for a family of 4.

Also trashy, to be fair. There isn’t any real quality food at MGM. If I ate there it would be the Sci Fi Drive-In for the novelty. Ronto Roasters is good but the seating situation is terrible. I am interested in trying the new Toy Story place that’s opening. But it’s also not a nice restaurant.

The best nice restaurants are at the resorts. But I can tell you, as long as you are eating anywhere except Victoria & Albert, trashy people will be there. Even V&A got lax on their dress code and you don’t have to wear a jacket and tie anymore, which mildly annoys me since it’s a five star restaurant.

Character meals use to be a great way to use table credits on the dining plan....however it looks like that ship has sailed and no return in sight.

After reading this and the OT thread yesterday on airplane attire my family is going to be very trashy in two weeks. My wife picked this place to eat breakfast one morning just due to the cost of the character dining and with two young kids going through a stage a picky eating we wanted to at least get something everybody would eat. I had no input because I know nothing about Disney planning.
