We're talking about $5k (assuming anything without the Disney label is 50% off) to indulge someone else's wants, not yours, or your kids.
It’s your in laws or your parents…your family? His wife wants to vacation with her parents….it’s once every 5 years. You can’t make everyone happy here every vacation. I’d love to go on a week long hunting trip every year and take my family but that ain’t happening, so I do it every couple years. We don’t go to Disney often but I go for my kids occasionally.
It really comes down to if the spouse enjoys doing it with her parents and the grandkids enjoy it. If they do, as the only one that does it’s really your family duties to just suck it up.

This is exactly how you end up on the Money board asking about Social Security payouts to avoid eating cat food when you're 61.
It's not your job to lay back and take what everyone else asks you to do, blood or not. None of them will be there for you when it comes time to write a check to the IRS.
Both parents are supposed to serve as a counterbalance to each other. Be a pushover, see how that turns out in five years.
