Which is the recommended route, I-10 west of Houston or US-290?

Less chance of running into f*ckery (wrecks, shitty drivers)
on 290...more scenic route too and best of all...bypass San Antonio.

Yes they will both be within 10 minutes ETA at any given time. Unless you are arriving in Austin around 4-5 on a weekday. will probably send you up north once you get closer on tollway 130 (85mph speed limit)

Take 290. You can drive as fast as on I-10 with less chance of standstill from some accident.
TX drivers haul arse, and everyone knows it.

Coming from someone who lives near San Antonio…
I’d say take 290 to Manor, then toll road 130 around Austin up to Round Rock.
Austin and San Antonio traffic is brutal.

Heading to North Austin - 290… South Austin - I10 and 71… Round Rock is North Austin. The downside is 290 means you’ll be closer to aggieland

71 is way prettier than 290.

As a Baton Rouge native currently living in Round Rock, the answer is I-10 through Houston, take HWY-71 north west past Columbus to Austin, then toll road TX-130 to Round Rock.

This is the most direct route with the highest speed limits, bypassing most of the speed traps.

I didn’t realize you were going to Round Rock too. I’ll be there as well. What section will you be in?
