I have always followed this tragedy. I remember that I was in Pensacola on a vacation with friends when I heard the news.

This is a new simulation that apparently explains it in greater detail. Such a tragic chain of events.

It was a terrible crash and I know it gets lots of attention because it happened in NOLA but the one crash that just astonishes me when I see anything about it is the Tenerife disaster. It had to be an apocalyptic site at that crash location.

That one that crashed into Lake P was bad too.

Microbursts are nothing to frick around with.

And they can happen on any side and under any thunderstorm.

Wasn't someone on this board flying a plane in line behind 759?

Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel did an episode on it. Several things led up to it, but one pilot took off without permission. Both pilots on the Pan Am jet survived and one was interviewed for the documentary. Really interesting and I was surprised he was an Auburn grad. He and the pilot both jumped out of the cockpit onto the ground.

Yeah Eastern flight 304. Supposedly the majority of the plane is still at the bottom of lake pontchartrain.

777Tiger. Second in line to take off. If you listen to the ATC recording you can hear him.

I'll add this one. Think it was headed to New Orleans, but didn't make it.

I won't tell you the outcome. Lady Captain was pretty bad arse though.

A recently graduated editor of the Hullabaloo was on that one.

The Dutch captain who took off while Pan Am was still on the runway was the face of the airline and their main trainer. He was on the front page of the airline’s magazine. When the crash first happened KLM was trying to reach him to go for there for the investigation not realizing he was the actual captain onboard.

This is a better video of that SW flight with uncontained engine failure. Includes interview with female captain and her co-captain along with passengers seated on row 14 where the passenger went out the window.

As the late great Stuart Scott said, she's "as cool as the other side of the pillow."

And she could get it.

A memory I had long forgotten. A lot happened in South Louisiana at the time.

That shite is my literal nightmare. As a rational adult, I know I shouldn’t be terrified of flying in airplanes. But I definitely am, and shite like this is why.

I’ve flown both privately and commercially my whole life and every time our wheels leave the ground I think of that heavy arse plane loaded with morons and luggage and I’m thinking “we’ll if something’s going to frick up please don’t let it happen now”.

Every time.

Flying is always a surreal experience to me. Flying in a metal tube at 30,000 feet at 400 mph with two fuel bombs on either side. Being transported somewhere in 3 hours that would be a 20+ hour drive.
