From Ohio, it is aboot 300 miles to the Atlantic Ocean and aboot 2000 to the Pacific. Tell me how that equates to middle, dumbass. Try looking at a map. Notice that it is still closer to the east than the middle or west.
Naming something wrong, then calling it that for 100 years, does not make it correct.
