The long term prospects for China are pretty dismal at best

That being said, I didn't watch the SOTU address last night so missed whatever you're talking about

He is, meaning his country and people are, but it doesn't matter when you can just pimp your entire populace down with fear.

They need other countries to collapse before their chips change. They're working hard on that, and will be looking to take over Taiwan for that reason. If they don't make a move sooner than later, they won't have that leverage I suspect.

Things are getting rough.
