Mining, I believe.

Industry generates slightly above 50%[citation needed] of the gross national product of Sakha, stemming primarily from mineral exploitation. Industrial enterprises are concentrated in the capital Yakutsk, as well as in Aldan, Mirny, Neryungri, Pokrovsk, and Udachny. The diamond, gold, and tin ore mining industries are the major focus of the economy.

That portly kid grabbing the apples looked like he was going to stuff some extra in his pocket, if the camera wasn't there.

Is there no defroster in the relic?
I'm going to say yes, but the weather is so cold the water in the engine can't get hot enough to keep the windshield clear....thus the reason they covered the radiator and underside of the engine.

Damn. I had to crank up the thermostat a couple degrees after watching that. The dad seemed like he would fit in anywhere in rural USA. Goes to show that even though customs, beliefs, etc are different, people are people and the good ones are good ones no matter where you are.

This one where they follow a 9 year old kid around as he walks to school is pretty nuts.
We suck.

The whole time I was watching that thinking my kids wouldn’t last a day there.

Erry time I think I want to move to Montana or Wyoming, we will have a few days like this past week and I'm like, "nawl, I'm good here."

There is a documentary called Happy People - A Year in Tiaga. It is about the people live in Siberia. It was pretty interesting and provided some insight on how they survive.
Great documentary. I watch it a couple times a year. It's amazing how resourceful they are.

A huge part of the problem. Americans are simply voyeurs now, we had it so good we forgot how to do anything.

Absolutely. And I realize that and probably live better than most.
Im talking more about the quality of people and the attitude and work ethic they have. Trust me, there is no amount of money or quality of people that would move me from my 80 deg Florida days to that cold fricking place...

Ahh yes.
I watched the one with the kid walking to school. Why not put some sort of face shield or something to cover his eyes? I am guessing maybe it fogs up?

Amazing how they have a 115 degree Fahrenheit shift from their winter lows (-45) to their summer highs (70).
In much of the US and Europe, I would say the shift is no more than 65-70 degrees.

Some of these extreme temperature places on this planet approach space-like temperatures. Pretty crazy.

In one of the videos, it talks about how its impossible to wear glasses outside because the fog up then the fog freeze.
