Why does he do this?

Because Ron is going to be his opponent. He did the same thing to the field in 2014-15 and none of you bitched. In fact, I remember us all cheering when he humiliated Jeb.

Nobody liked Jeb.

Everybody likes/will like Ron.

Yeah, but Trump’s response to Covid was putrid and full of land mines for him. Huge error here.

Are you really comparing DeSantis’ popularity to Jeb!’s?

Jeb is different as he was a declared opponent of his for the primaries. Ron might be his opponent. Right now, he isn’t and for all of the talk that’s all it is. When/if Ron enters the primary is when you do this stuff. At this point all he’s doing is attempting to weaken a governor that may end up staying put as one. All that he can accomplish doing this is alienate voters for no reason. It’s a bad look… for now.

Exactly.

It's called a political campaign. If Desantis isn't prepared to go to war against Trump then he's better off staying in Tallahassee.

It will be interesting to see how Desantis responds.

I think the Desantis plan is to enter the race very late but will he let Trump pound on him for 6-7 months?

There is a subtle, but very important difference. DeSantis has not announced he's in the field. So he can do a political rope-a-dope.

DeSantis can claim to ignore Trump while Trump continues throwing wild haymakers. Instead, he can allow his surrogates to do the dirty work.

Alternately, he can take advantage of the defacto blackout of Trump media coverage, keep his powder dry and refuse to give the message any amplification at all.

Until DeSantis declares his candidacy, it's a different ballgame than 2016.
