I was at one of the public meetings for the project at the Main Library several months ago and heard that they may look at a way to getting truckers informed to take alternate routes if their travels take them through BR.

Like what routes? There really aren’t any that don’t add a ton of miles

There are no routes for truckers to use that would save them any time and all would cost them way more in fuel.

As for the Plaquemine ferry, they are not reliable. Plus, as it is now you are waiting 45 minutes unless you hit it just right during non-peak hours.


Also, with all the work planned for major surface streets BR will be non-drivable for a while.

If they use Waze….they are already getting routed on US 190 during some times of day.

Not sure if the US 190 bridge can legitimately handle that much extra traffic. It’s a fairly narrow 4 lane bridge and the LA1 approach is only one lane. And there is a rail crossing on the Baton Rouge side that DOTD decided would remain at-grade. Because Louisiana…

My wife worked for the LADOTD for a short time. Apparently, there is a law or rule somewhere where truckers are supposed to take the old bridge during peak traffic times. You all see how well the state enforces that law...
