Don’t get me wrong. Luger’s is good, but it’s not unique.
I am trying to decide if I want to use one of my four dinners at Luger’s.
Someone said earlier it had a mafia feel to it, that you may get whacked at any moment. We ate at De Nico’s in Little Italy (rec from friend who grew up there). It was awesome, including the feeling a mob hit could happen at anytime. There even was a fat Italian man sitting at the back of the restaurant, by himself, with a heavy Brooklyn/Italian accent. Even his name was Tony. We talked with him for a few minutes about New Orleans. He comes down from time to time, to play jazz sax in a band.

Save yourself the ride. Just go to Wolfgang’s on 33rd. Same bacon & steak quality.

If you're looking for a mafia feel, try Sparks Steakhouse on East 46th. Paul Castellano was gunned down on the curb right outside the restaurant.
It's also been there forever and has a good atmosphere. The steak is good, too, like so many steakhouses in New York. I prefer Smith & Wallensky's but there are many to choose from.
