Neutral Site Games

Can we start a formal petition / letter to issue to the administration / athletic department to do away with the neutral site games?

It’s the only way to stop it. Settle for the big screen at home.

This won’t stop it either. They don’t care about butts in seats anymore. Tv money is where it’s at.

They tend to play these games where they have large fan bases so those folks can actually go to a game in person.
And a crap ton of people are going to put down a ton of money to see the Tigers play USC in Vegas.

Why does playing Houston in Houston get more money than in BR?

To paraphrase TREY WALLACE from his article on Outkick: it’s a shame the fan bases and teams from the two stoic football programs won’t get the experience of playing at the others venue

Playing Houston in Houston with a guaranteed payday from the kickoff event is more money than playing Houston in BR without having to pay for anything. Travel and other game expenses are covered by the sponsors.
2027 was also the year LSU was supposed to play at Oklahoma. This game gives you a game away from home that you would have been playing anyway that season that you get a huge payout for. So the 2027 season will actually be more profitable than it would have been previously.
I get it it sucks for the fans and I wish all games were on campus but from a business and making money for the program side it makes sense.

Houston will be in the Big 12 starting next year, so they will be a Power 5 Conference team.

No/ minimal overhead cost affiliated with neutral site games.
Latent effect of HTX game " might" be recruiting.
Just uneducated guesses

Houston and Orlando both have a lot of LSU alumni. That is one of the reasons LSU admin likes to play in their

Still such a "meh" matchup tho.

As far as playing them at NRG, Houston's stadium doesn't have 40k seats. This just insures more people can attend. I'm fine with a neutral site game in Vegas, as I plan to go to that one. But Dallas? Nola? Orlando? Boring. Next.

The early season neutral site games get attention because they are guaranteed prime TV placement over the holiday weekend that opens the season. Even though LSU and FSU were both just considered up and comers with potential this last season, we still got a Sunday Prime Time spot for going the neutral site route. That game would have been just another one Saturday afternoon or evening if it had been played on campus.
While traditional home or away game between LSU and any other P5 will obviously be a big game and be televised, the neutral site games are locked into the best TV slots Labor Day weekend now. That isn’t going to change. If you want one of those prime TV spots, you play the game.
I prefer home and away games like most of you, but from a business and exposure standpoint, you don’t turn these down. You want to be one of that handful of brand names often featured at the opening of the season.

Unfortunately, this is LSU's main, and typically, only consideration in making decisions. Hence the shitty deal with Aramark, the high concession stand prices, ticket increases, tv packages through ESPN, and all the other expenses associated with supporting LSU as a fan. At some point, LSU needs to realize the fans are half of what makes LSU sports so great and start making decisions in consideration of such.
LSU football is one of the most profitable industries in college sports, so I don't think we are struggling to pay the bills. For once, it would be nice for LSU to do something that benefits the fans, although maybe not the biggest money maker.

FTR i am not much of a fan of this game, but it is not without positives.
1 - Decent team to be scheduled in relative short notice.
2 - Houston is a huge LSU alumni base and an even bigger recruiting base.
3 - Houston will be a Power 5 program at the time of the game. TV will be able to hype it in that light. And SHOULD be an easy win for the Tigers on a national telecast.
4 - TV money is where this sport has gone. Too late to complain about it.

I'm unsure if these neutral sites benefits LSU at all.
Like the season-opening game for next season, we play Florida State in Orlando. That's practically home for FS.
In 2024, we go to Las Vegas for the season opener against USC. That's practically home for USC.
Then, in 2027, we go to Houston to play the Cougars in Houston’s NRG Stadium. That's practically home for them!
These are not neutral sites if you ask me.
