The only reason people praised Romo in the first place was because he had a knack for predicting plays right before they happened. It was almost as if he had played in the NFL and watched a ton of game film and knew what to expect when he saw certain formations from the offense and how the defense responded to those.

I think a lot of the praise came from having someone competent in the booth compared to so many other terrible combos. Essentially, the lesser of multiple evils. The other thing is he actually pays attention to the plays/game in front of him and knows more than 5 facts about each team for the 1 game that he calls a week.

And someone mentioned when he first started in the booth, it is easier to do that when you are just out of the league. He has been reading defenses and reacting for years.
The further away he gets from the game and the play calling evolves, the harder it will be for Romo to call the plays.
Looks like that person who predicted that may be on to something.
