logical people know when Zion is back in a week or two we will be right back in the hunt for the 1-2 seed
and you know he will stay healthy how? As of right now today, we can't count on Zion or BI being around for any period of time and that my friend will maybe get us the 8th seed if they can't.
Check this stat out as of today. From #3 seed to #13 seed, 5.5 game separation.

quote:The issue is that we are a team whose top 2 players seem to miss 25+ games more often than not, and that is impeding us from being good at that.
the WIN NOW montra though needs to stop, and just look in the mirror and understand what you are and be good at that.
Now, we are the 4 seed and maybe BI and ZIon are both back in 1 week and all is well. That certainly may happen.
But there's an equal chance that we don't see both dudes playing on the court for another 3+ weeks, we lose another 8 of 10 games or some shite, and by the time they return, yet another season is lost when we are already behind schedule.
quote:It should be. We were the 1 seed after 35 games, the expectations shifted and should have shifted from your "just go lose in the 1st round" expectation.
Seems like the Melt is beginning to happen though

Who says we can't be healthy during the playoffs?

It's probably more than worth stating that even without Zion and BI, not having Naji with the run he has been on is a pretty big loss.
In his last 10 games he was averaging 16 pts, 5 rbs, and 3 asts on 43% shooting. Having Naji to throw at Butler, Herro, Lowry, Oladipo, etc wouldn't have hurt either.

Patience. Let them get their "beaks" wet this year.... go lose in the 1st round, then come back fully healthy next year. Anything past the 1st round would be lagniappe and only propel what next year or the year after would bring.
This is just not true. We have no cap space. Any other move is going to put us into the tax. And I love BI and Zion but you can’t realistically think they’ll take another step given they’re already a fringe MVP candidate and All-Star. That’s just not realistic. The team is constructed as is. Not to mention CJ has only a few years of peak performance left. A first round exit would be a disaster

What?
A player's peak tends to be in their mid to late 20's
Bi is 25
Zion is 22
Yes, there is the possibility both are maxed out, but the long history of the league and players career trajectories within it says that both will continue to get better over the next few seasons.
Bi in particular, has shown an uncanny ability to materially grow his game in a meaningful way every year. Not just simply get better at the things he can already do(though he does that too).

Yes I believe as well BI is just beginning to tap into his prime.

I’m not saying that they can’t grow or get better. But could they take a massive leap that would warrant a jump from first round exit to championship? That seems difficult considering they’re already all stars.

I think BI is pretty much what he is. Not saying he's maxed out, but as a Pelican he's pretty much been a 23-24 PPG guy, I don't think in his 8th or 9th season he's suddenly going to become a guy that gets you 31 a game like Jayson Tatum does.
Zion on the other hand, I think it is frightening how much room he still has to grow. I mean Luka is at 34, 9 and 9 this season, why can't Zion become that with maybe lower rebound (though the ceiling and potential is there to surpass even 9) and assist numbers?

Not at all! Long time season ticket holder who’s sick of guys cleared by the medical staff who refuse to play. This has happened twice already this year but isn’t public knowledge. Not fair to fans at all.

I don't think either require a massive leap at this point.
BI being the passer/iso shooter he has been, with the 3pt shooting of this year, and the defense at the end of last season is a top 15-20 player in this league.
Zion developing a few more weapons in his arsenal and cleaning up his handle is a top 5 offensive player.
You can 100% win a championship with that and the guys we have.
The key is health and balancing the roster a bit. We need an athletic rim protector and we need more shooting.

Oh I completely agree. I was more pushing back at the idea it would be ok if we had a first round exit. I think we’re a much better team than that. If this team when healthy is a first round exit, it will never be a champion. But I think this team is a lot better than that.

We just have injury prone stars, an incredibly overly conservative training staff, and depth that isn't as good as we thought.
Hard to argue the first two points. But the third one I don’t agree with. If you expect our back ups to be as good when they are thrust into the starting lineup as when they are on the second team I don’t know what to tell you. If you expect our back ups to be as productive when they are forced to be scoring options rather than play off of two big time stars like Zion and BI, again I don’t know what to tell you. It’s a big overreaction. I’ll ask the same question I keep asking: what team out there could continue to play winning basketball with their two best players out? Because we haven’t been able to continue winning doesn’t mean our depth isn’t what we thought it was.

Zion is in year 4, BI year 7. Not sure why you're preaching patience when we're behind schedule.
How old were Michael Jordan and Lebron James when they won their first title?
