Wooden. Asterisk?

Tell me what the Wooden scandals were. I don't recall those.

Also, those other coaches, were they on a wiretap discussing a strong arse offer, and did they pay a baby momma from their personal account and have a string of text messages to them? So maybe it's that he cheated clumsily.

A winning college basketball is like sausage, most people who love it, really don't want to see how it's made. Wade showed us and it cost him his job. And that's on Wade.

Wooden didn't get caught of course. He may not have even known about players being compensated. But, there are published believable stories about the people and methods in which players were "paid."

Will Wade lovers just want to win and be competitive. What we have turned into in the McMahon era is looking more like the Johnny Jones and Trent Johnson era.

Scandals =/= not cheating and paying players when it was illegal. You can easily google John Wooden paying players. Turning a blind eye also makes it not scandalous at the time, only until it all comes out.

This is more the true argument IMO. Wade didn't "cheat correctly". Think about that for a moment. "Sorry, I didn't have a bag man." It's a disingenuous point of view and nonsensical.

If that's what people think... "You didn't cheat the right way" then I'll just laugh it off.

Wooden started his career during segregation, I'm sorry to say. California was probably the most integrated state in the Union. He could go to almost any state and use that as a recruiting tool to recruit the best black athletes.
Once UCLA became a power, there was a Dr. Gilbert that was the "Money Man" agent who protected the image of the Great Coach. I'm sure, once the reputation of Wooden/UCLA began to fill the coffers of the sports media, they looked the other way. Wooden was a mild mannered gentleman so he filled the image necessary to build the sport.
The Blue bloods coaching salaries increased as the sport became more popular so the were MUM.
