Something with 2 doors and a manual transmission. Don’t want a lot of kids with him and it’s hard to multitask with no free hands.

not if you're good enough - I had a manual and I could eat, drink, mess with the radio and shift without any problem

I always point out that a manual uses a decent amount of bandwidth for a new driver, and while it MAY discourage them from multitasking in the event of an emergency the extra bandwidth needed may be the difference between an accident and avoiding one. Simple is better for new drivers.
