My wife and I agreed before marriage that we’d never finance a vehicle, which has been a TERRIFIC decision.

We started out driving hand me down or family discount clunkers. I then needed a nicer car for work (I used to travel a lot and comfort started to matter). I’d save up my mileage reimbursement/car allowance money in a separate account, and when the current vehicle started to give out (usually around 200k miles), I’d spend what I had saved on the next ride. My current car I purchased for 23k. My wife’s vehicle is an older SUV (2013 Volvo XC90) we paid blue book for from a relative. It’s a tank and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have NEVER regretted not having a car payment.
