Obviously Kelly would've loved keeping all 3...

but if he had to pick one to lose, would he have picked Howard? I would have to think so. The point that's been made ad nauseam here, which was almost always a stone cold lock, was that he in fact, would lose one.
Ok...here's the more controversial take. CFB has created the environment for these kids to come and go through colleges like a Wendy's drive-thru. Loyalty on both sides of this equation is long gone.
Maybe it's all in how things get handled. Maybe in Howard's case, he was the QB version of Leonard Fournette. We have been waiting on him since 8th grade because he was an La. kid, a H.S. legend and a legacy. It stings more I think, because of those factors.
Having said that, anyone blaming this kid for leaving has either never played in the modern era of CFB or never had kids go through this. I have and it's not so simple when it's your family. This kid, who has spent his whole life prepping for CFB was being asked to spend at least half his college eligibility running scout team offenses. Would you advise your kid to do that if you were Jaime? Think about it before you blow me up.
Listen, I don't like what's happened to CFB. If there were no portal, we wouldn't have 3 excellent QB's on our roster. Kid's now can "roll the dice" on going to their "dream school" and if it doesn't break their way, they can go do it again.
I think CFB caused this and I find it hard to blame a kid for taking advantage of it. I wish every kid that signed with LSU loved it like I do. The truth is, they love playing football more than the school they sign with. Now they love the money and fame from NIL more than the schools they sign with.
Again, Howard is an La. kid. He was supposed to stay because of his love for the state, school and his legacy dad. He will now be hated by a portion of this fanbase and I personally think unfairly. I bet you there's one person that understands this and doesn't blame the kid...Brian Kelly!

Do you know how many 4 star and 5 star QB's washout? like half. You take the sure thing all day.

Strong possibility that LSU coaching staff told him you might want to start looking because we don’t think you will ever start here. That stuff happens all the time behind closed doors. Recruiting rankings are hard to nail on many of these QBs.

It sets up perfectly for it to be Howard to leave.

bullshite... he never even competed for the starting job. He came in and demanded to be redshirted... was redshirted... then dipped out.
That's bullshite.

quote:bruh. He redshirted. This upcoming year, he will be a freshman. And we signed another QB who would have likely run the scout team this year. None of your post is factual.

The kid, or his daddy, either didn't want to compete with Nuss or didn't believe he could pass up Nuss.

Agree. That's why I think its really ridiculous to hate on this kid. Maybe he just isn't what we all thought he was. Maybe he is and is just behind 2 guys that are currently better and there was no reason for CBK to lie to him about next year. Regardless, I think this decision make a lot of sense for him. He doesn't owe me anything!

You simply don't know that but that's the narrative people that want to believe that will go with. Your opinion...it's as good as mine in terms of importance.

So how many meaningful reps do you think the 3rd string QB gets at a school like LSU? So he doesn't run the scout team. That means he has less involvement than last year. Plain and simple, he understood he was behind Nuss for at least 2 years and he decided to try and go where he could play. Why is this so hard to understand and accept?

So you agree that if Kelly had to cut one QB, Howard would've been the guy? If we can understand that, Walker/Jamie can too.

I am not upset at all about him leaving. If he was my kid, I would be advising him to look around for an opportunity to play and get that experience. With that being said, I believe we have the best 2 options on the team left. I would have been more upset with losing Nuss. I wish Howard luck and hope it’s in a conference not named SEC.

He’s not cutting anyone. Walker didn’t want to compete. He wants second string or starter handed to him.
I don’t think he’s dumb for transferring, because he won’t see the field for a while, but the fact of the matter is that he does not want to earn it, or doesn’t think he can

Throwing the BS flag on this one.
I have a hard time that any coach ever tells a kid coming off of a redshirt year that the coaches don’t think he will ever start.
Do you have any idea the changes mentally and physically happen to kids from 18-21? Injuries? Other transfers? You are simply wrong about this one, earth.

I think you make some good points, some that I agree with...

quote:it's not. I literally said that either him, or his daddy, didn't want him to compete against Nuss or didn't believe he could beat him out. But, your post has 2 incorrect details.
he understood he was behind Nuss for at least 2 years and he decided to try and go where he could play. Why is this so hard to understand and accept?
1. He likely wasn't running the scout team for 2023.
2. Even if he did, it would be for his redshirt freshman year and he'd have 3 years after that. So, that isn't half of his eligibility.

How much do you want to bet this guy is from the Lafayette area, and maybe makes a game a year?

I'm from Lafayette and think this is a bitch move by Howard.
He's either scared to compete, doesn't think he can beat out Nuss in 2024 or has some sort of beef with the staff.
Spare me the "he doesn't want to be third string" bullshite. That's pretty much the same as saying he's scared to compete.

Disagree. I think he wants to play this upcoming season not in 2024. Kids can make the NFL coming from the smallest schools like Wyoming...playing time is most important not fear of competition i think
