1 day enough for kings canyon and sequoia? Or do I need 2 days?
kings canyon is more of a drive in/out type deal (its spectactular though, dont miss it) especially with little kids.

sequoia has multiple easy hikes you can take thru the tree groves (emphasis on easy), the kids will be gobsmacked by the trees and you'll likely see lots of deer and other wildlife. you wont be going into the sierra backcountry with kids so 1 or 2 nights at sequoia (stay in the park at the lodge or the cabins) is plenty

Driving in the mountains is not as simple as 100 miles will take me 1.5 hours. Keep that in mind, your trip plan sounds like some serious time in a car. I would not waste your time in SF or Oakland.

Monterey's aquarium is world class. Cutting through smaller towns in the valley is a good learning lesson. CA has a TON of agriculture that feeds people throughout the West/US.

Thanks. We drove from Denver to Grand Canyon, all Utah parks then to RMNP and back to Denver. My boys are fine with the ride and we try and stop as much as possible for pictures. I am guessing a lot of speed traps in small towns?

I don't remember speed traps. But gas will be REALLY expensive in small towns in CA.

Check the road closures on CA-1; I was looking into a similar trip recently and the various closures affected travel between several of the more popular spots on the coast road.

I was stunned by that when we drove thru the valley thru Fresno heading East from sequoia. It really puts in perspective how we eat what we eat, and what it takes to eat it
