i was a state officer in 75
convention in KCS was great
learned a lot from old ag teacher
land judging—state champs, standing saw timber in forestry field day and showed hogs—-my first pig came from the Sears pig chain— during the thirties sears and roebuck gave each chapter pigs to give to students—the student had to return a pig to the chapter from the first litter—that was still going on in 1972 when i got mine—Hampshire

trivia—Gerald Ford’s first speech as President was to the national ffa convention and was nationally televised. Traditionally the FFA got the VP so he was scheduled to be there before Nixon resigned. Rockefeller spoke the year i was there—non event—we were much more interested in Tanya Tucker who had her first big hit “Delta “Dawn” out at the time. I remember Johnny Bench, Bob Dole and Colonel Sanders being there too

Grew up on a farm but homeschooled so no FFA for me.
I did chase a cute redhead who was a champion of just about everything 4-H (and I assume FFA). No luck on that front, although it was a joy to just see her parading around the John M. Parker Coliseum in her tight Wranglers.
Weird, only-in-Louisiana kind of story: I was over at LSU during the Livestock Show late 1980s, and this up and coming politician was there shaking hands. I didn't have any idea what he supported, but, as a fan of Bo and Luke and Hazzard County, I figured that anyone with that family name should be a pretty decent individual. I even managed to get my hands on a "David Duke for Senate" bumper sticker.
Bear in mind I was a teenager who had been homeschooled and generally kept away from all pop culture, so I was pretty dang naive. I had no idea what Duke was espousing--he was just someone with a cool name who shook my hand and made small talk about farming or some shite.

I notice that the chapter at our local HS are at least half girls now and all but one of the officers are girls.

My neighbor's kid was a big deal in FFA. They paid her to travel around and give speeches all through her Sr. year of high school. Farm Bureau Insurance gave her fat scholarships after high school.

One of the finest chicks I have ever seen when I was a teenager was from Homer, LA. We were at the Ag show in Lafayette. I never knew where Homer was but I got out the Rand McNally and woulda risked it all if I had my truck at that time

I’m in. Chapter Green hand award. Chapter treasurer. Chapter equine award winner. Area winner in dairy cattle judging. Area farmer award. Missed out on state farmer award due to a misprint in my expense page. State delegate. Great experience. Some very fine women in that organization. Learned a lot.

Nah man. The pool was cool and armadillo hunting at night with sticks on that trail around the place was the shite.
