I didnt want to seem like an idiot at a range or in a class like I was asking where the basement was at the Alamo.

Any reputable and qualified shooting instructor would rather have someone like you as a student than someone who signs up for a course thinking they already "know it all". There are no idiot questions if you are a beginner and eager to learn.

One great thing that helps to get started is buying the “snap caps” after your first firearm purchase. Just look on amazon, etc for whatever caliber you need for that firearm.

Its fake ammunition with no danger of “going off” on you. It will allow you to reload, cycle the action, etc to learn the ins and outs of how it functions in a safe way.
