Upper ice maker stopped - Solved.

So, shortly after responding in another thread that I have had no issues with my Frigidaire fridge, I end up with this problem. The ice maker for the door. The lower one works fine, so it cannot be a water supply issue. I have restarted it and simply turned it off and on. Can it be frozen? Any ideas?

Not sure I understand, but the door water dispenser works as does the freezer ice maker.

I have the exact same problem with my Frigidaire. It was working fine last week until I emptied the upper tray. It hasn't dropped a single cube since. Bottom tray works fine.

So, thanks to YouTube, I found there is a defrost mode. It's not in the owner's manual. Ran it last night, and have ice this morning. Defrost mode.

There are 4-5 solenoids on a frigidaire fridge. Getting water to the dispenser has nothing to do with getting water to the icemaker(s).

If it's freezing up chronically. You'll likely need to replace a thermistor or the control board. Obviously in forced defrost the heater works so you know the heater and the defrost thermostat are good.
In my experience with frigidaire. The defrost thermistor fails and gives the wrong ohms reading to the main board. The machine can't tell its icing over. The upper icemaker stopping is step one. Step two is the freezer ices over and needs to be manually defrosted.
If this problem returns. You will need to have someone check the ohms of the thermistors at the control board. If they are in spec replace the control.
On your fridge it's behind the air vent at the front bottom left side of the fridge.

Another helpful video including increasing ice production.

I do this on the regular with mine. I have it memorized. How does someone figure this out?

Change the thermistor in the freezer or the control board. The control is easier for the diyer to change but is more $$. But in my experience it's 50-50 control or thermal.
I use a chart. Every brand has a specific ohms the thermistor should read at a set temp. If I find a thermistor reading 50-70° yet is covered in ice I know that's the problem.
Though if it's only the icemaker freezing up. And the heater works. Many times it's the logic on the board that is bad. It can't be reflashed easily so best to change the control.

defrost mode
Thanks for this post. Have a fridge like this, came with the house a couple of years ago and the top ice maker never worked - didn't bother trying to fix it. Running defrost now.
