I am just speculating, but I don’t think he likes JD. He announced he was coming back when JD’s status was up in the air. Now JD is coming back and all of a sudden Boutte is out

I’m sure that’s it. There is no way that he had any idea that JD was coming back when he made his decision. Nope, he just knew that Mr Interception was going to be the starter next year and he wanted to come back for that.
