Some Vols believe Gruden is a done deal.

I just talked to Jon Gruden's mother-in-law.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She is obviously well aware of all that is being written and stated by many networks, sportscasters, and Tennessee fans about her son-in-law coming to coach at Tennessee. The only thing she said I could share with everyone was that "many people will be surprised."
Q & A in that thread gives the impression he'll be coming to coach em.

He likes to date the qbs but not marry them.

Well, I doubt Tenn waits as long as they would need to in order to get him. He is probably going to the playoffs with the Bucs, which means he couln't accept a job until probably mid January at the earliest. So unless they are okay with basically flushing a promising recruiting class down the drain, he's not going there.

I still can't think of any good reasons for Gruden to coach at Tennessee.

from the same board, another poster to it.
The local ESPN outlet here in SW Florida reported today that Tennessee has floated a five million dollar a year five year trial balloon contract at current Tampa Bay Buc coach Jon "Chuckie" Gruden.
Gruden's wife is a UT grad, where he met her in 86 when he was an assistant there.
Per ESPN, the initial reaction from sources close to Gruden say that he has interest.

I know, I know, Saban sucked in the NFL, and this is a completely different situation....
but it's not impossible for it to happen.
I wonder how he's gonna recruit though...
"Kid, are you going to sign with us or what? Wait? frick that. Get the frick out of my office. NEXT!"
It would be interesting to see what kind of classes he would be able to put together.

I think he would do well recruiting. One of Sabans big pitches has been "I have been in the NFL I know what it takes to get there". I imaginge Gruden would have success following that act up with "I have been to the NFL and I was actually worth a shite there...check out this super bowl ring". He would have to get the hang of it, but he is a smart guy and a hard worker so I imagine he would catch on fast.

Would they really want gruden? isn't part of being a great NCAA coach being able to run the circuit and schmooz boosters? Not sure if Gruden will want to do that.

Gruden is celebrated for going to work at 4AM but as a college coach he wouldnt have to work that hard.

People around the SEC are going to be sorry Phil is gone if they hire Gruden. I hope LSU does not have UT on the schedule any time soon.

But are they really ready to fork out 5 mil out of the get go? I dunno. Maybe they saw the crap we went through and are of the opinion to pay up and do it right the first time.

They will have to pay high for someone regardless of who it is if they want to compete. Might as well go all in on a good one.

It is very hard for someone like that to take a step down. I believe it when I see it. In my eyes he is a NFL coach.

The word up here in Knoxville is that Gruden is on the way. Sorry Bama fans, you punks just got one-upped by the Vols it looks like.

That is yet to be determined. Could be alot of crow coming if he doesn't, could be he's not as good with college kids and recruiting as he is with pro players in the pros.
Also could be he's coming and will do fine.
On another note, does Mile still have in his contract to be the highest paid? If so, then if the Vols fork out 5 mil per year.. yall are gonna have to come up with more cabbage.
