What makes people more likely to be really into conspiracy theories?

I did about 15 minutes worth of googling a few weeks ago, and there are several factors at play here. One is people's desire, whether they realize it or not, to be "in the know" or have a piece of inside information that most people don't have. It's sort of like a really good piece of gossip. When we have a really good piece of gossip, the endorphins and happy brain chemicals definitely kick in, and it feels good.
According to to other theories on conspiracy theorists, human beings also have a subconscious desire to be part of a larger group and a larger cause. Filling that void for a sense of community. Conspiracy theories can fill this void, especially in the day and age of social media.
Also, personally, I think that a lot of it has to do with behavioral and psychological makeup. In other words, people who are on the paranoid schizophrenic spectrum are way more likely to be into conspiracy theories. Not saying that everyone who subscribes to a conspiracy theory every now and then is on the paranoid schizo spectrum, but added up and averaged out, people closer to being on the spectrum are far more likely to be big conspiracy theorists.

Define conspiracy theory.

Half of them are really just spoiler alerts at this point.
However, my mom’s friend that ripped out his insulation to store more MRE rations in his attic definitely has a problem

Spending to much time with the politards will do it.

Conspiracy theorists love to think they are smarter than all the sheep that fall for reasonable explanations.

You talking about real conspiracy theories or conspiracy theories that are things that have been proven true but go against the media narrative

DEFINITELY part of the psychology, no doubt!

Youre one.
Are you under the impression everything you believe is government approved?

Does your "half of them" mathematical equation include all of the QANON content from the past few years?

It depends entirely on the specific CT.

“Conspiracy theories”, if you go by what’s printed and talked about in media, are proved to be reality on a daily basis

True, but the whole “social media is under the thumb of the deep state” was pretty spot on, even if previously ridiculed
Posted on 12/26/22 at 2:09 pm to Sgt Tuffnuts
“Conspiracy theory” is now just a word people use to demonize opposing political or social viewpoints.
