Uninsulated boots + boot blankets is my universal recommendation now. You can hike uninsulated, which is great, and wrap your boots in like 2500 grams of insulation when you stop. Best of both worlds.

You make a good point. In fact, that's what I did w/ the recent spell of cold weather-I wore boot blankets over my uninsulated leather boots to see how it'd be. It kept my feet fairly warm, but I want to simplify what I pack in to the stand. I'll keep the boot blankets around for the grandkids and my wife to wear.
