What kinda drugs are you smoking? I lived Uptown New Orleans for years and it is not inundated with chains. Sure, there are some, but a lot fewer than you see in urban sprawl cities
ETA: I was also able to walk to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, parks, etc... I would go weeks without driving my vehicle. If I wanted to go to the WHD I would usually just hop on my bike.
