How many years of this until coaches start calling for a cap on NIL? Is it even doable?

Can't be done

Why should there be one anyway? Players should be able to be paid for stuff like NIL.

I agree that NIL right now is out of control, but eventually it will shake out.

Supreme Court ruled. I'm not sure anything can be done.

It's not possible.

It's only possible in professional leagues because the players are all employees of the same company, only differing franchises.

Really? Tell me how any professional league has limited how much players can make via advertising and product endorsements.

I still dont think people understand NIL past the most basic concept that a player is getting paid money.

The NFL has a cap on the amount of money a team can pay their players which is more similar to how the NCAA has a cap as to how many players can have their tuition paid for through scholarships.

Endorsements and NIL deals are different and just supplemental income that cant be capped. You cant tell one of these kids that theyre only allowed to make a certain amount of money because endorsements and NIL deals are not allowed to be associated with the university, they have to come from a third party. Telling a kid he's not allowed to make more than $50,000 a year in their side job is communism. Imagine growing your business, get to college on scholarship, and the university saying youre in violation of the rules because you have an income stream over $50,000 a year that has nothing to do with the university thus resulting in fines.

They should be able to capitalize on their name once they make one, by legitimate advertising where it’s mutually beneficial for business and player.

These long term, back end NIL deals for players to sign with a school seems like the opposite of that.

Best I’ve seen someone put it on this board. There will never be NIL caps.

There will be lawsuits everywhere.

You can’t put a cap on how much a person can make off of themselves.

What needs to happen is rules that either eliminate collectives, or at least neuter the shite out of them with regulations, taxes, penalties, etc. There will never be caps on NIL, but these groups dropping bags for nothing but pure pay for play wasn’t the intent of the Supreme Court and are the root of all the problems.

That’s what has to be targeted, because eliminating or regulating collectives doesn’t specifically go against the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The capitalism remarks are asinine. Even capitalism has antimonopoly policies in place.
