Even "restored", I would never trust that car again on the road.

why not just build a car from scratch at that point.

If the US dollar ever regains value again, we'll be doing the same thing. Buy things and fix them and keep them forever was the American way until we started devaluing our currency, incentivizing everyone to buy cheap and spend more to replace upon breaking.

Yeah but in the US there is no interest at all to restore something. Because a totaled car can be profitable. You have the wrecker company that picks up the car who makes money on hauling it off and then it cost to keep it there, the insurance declares it totaled and sometimes they can make more putting it up for auction where people bid on it.. depending on what's wrong with it. It might be parts, etc. Then you have to buy a new car.
Insurance companies don't want someone to be able to get their totaled vehicle restored. They would love to take a totaled vehicle, get it restored then resell it, but practical doesn't work in the US.

Fake.
Half the video shows the frame machine and working that bad metal back into shape (the crystalline structure will have no integrity at those crumple points).
Then it shows them correctly cutting out the front end of the unibody and welding in new from the firewall forward.
The only way it makes sense is if you have a rear totaled one to donate, BUT why not just chop the rear unibody out of this one and put it on the good front end (because this long block and all accessories have to be totaled too)

He never used a welding hood or a mask while painting.
I don't think he ever put on a pair of gloves.

Looks like they straightened things out in order to properly cut out the damage.
