Few years ago my first father-in-law would not let my dog into his house, not even his basement or garage. Every year for Christmas and Thanksgiving, we had to board it for two nights, then drive two hours to his house.
The dog was a very friendly and well-behaved retriever. Like he can't even stay in the garage if I'm married to his daughter???
I was going to make an ultimatum the following year, but I decided to get rid of all of them rather than just him. It was a family that could not find a lot of peace and I hope they have worked some things out.
Also the old man would have too much bourbon and black out on the toilet around midnight without fail. You'd hear a "THUNK" and that was his head hitting the wall beside the stool.
