Many music geeks say great things about Fleet Foxes. Admittedly, I don't know too much about them, and from the people that promote them, well, I've gathered the impression that they may be a self-important, conceited band (think of Arcade Fire).

Nonetheless, I'm always for giving a new group a shot. What's your opinions of them? Can you give me a few songs (5 or so) to listen to? I always seek others recommendations on songs as opposed to going to Apple or Spotify which directs you to their hits.

They have released 4 full length albums and one EP. Below is my favorite track from each release:

Mykonos
White Winter Hymnal
Helplessness Blues
Third of May
Sunblind

Beautiful harmonies. Their first album is pretty good. Just not my cup of tea, as I grew bored of them pretty quickly. Still respect their music.

Their first EP (Sun Giant) and first LP (S/T) are fantastic. Definitely start with those. The rest of their catalogue leaves a lot to be desired after those first two releases. They aren't bad, but they don't get many repeat listens from me.

J. Tillman aka Father John Misty was part of the band until after their second LP I think. They were really fun to see live a that point.

Their second full length (Helplessness Blues) is actually my favorite, but I am probably in the minority there.

I think Helplessness Blues and Shore are pretty damn good. It's music that has it's time and place as it has a pretty specific feel to it, so it's not something that you can put on anytime, imo.

Never once thought about them in that light.

Yeah, I get a lot of the new Laurel Canyon vibes from them, but it just gets really samey after a while.

Well, mind blown over this one. He must have been frustrated with them because i can't really hear his solo stuff being represented in the band.

My understanding is that Robin Pecknold kicked him out due to drug issues and continual conflict. That could all be spin from him though, as FF is his project.

I had always assumed that Tillman's and Pecknold's egos couldn't exist long in the same band.

You’re being too nice. 3rd and 4th records were basically esoteric garbage.
