7:30 mark when Nuss takes over
Offense was clearly better in this game with Nussmeier, but I think his biggest issues, outside of his recklessness, are throwing off his back foot and sailing it at times

JD5 also had some of his best throws of the season before he went out. Excited for him to build on that, whether he starts or not.

The issue with JD is you don’t know who is going to show up. If he played every game like this sure. But he can be great one game and shell shocked the next. You can’t build a program on that

You mean because he literally couldn’t run. He was forced to throw and he did decent, but it was the same throws he normally makes.
Once he can scramble again, he will revert back to his same self.

And the issue with Nuss is he threw as many INT on 69 passes as Daniels did on 371. The true reality on both is that they each need their own type of growth this next season if LSU wants to be a true contender. We should welcome jd5 back and let the best man win.

There was a lot made of Nussmeier's arm strength. But it is clear Daniels has just as strong of an arm. He can really fit it into some tight windows when he wants to. And that's the key difference. When he wants to. Nussmeier is clearly unafraid to take some chances on so throws. Double covered. Tight coverage. Doesn't matter. It he thinks he can fit it in there he doesn't hesitate to let the ball go. On the other hand, Daniels' biggest weakness seems to be a hesitancy to throw the ball sometimes. When he is decisive he is just as good of a "pure thrower". But being a good thrower doesn't really help you...if you don't throw the ball.
From a pure physical standpoint you'd rather Daniels because his running ability puts much more stress on the defense. He's not just a QB who can run. He's a really good runner.

Who is watching this and wants JD over Nuss? Lol

His game against Arkansas is one of the worst performances I've ever seen by a quarterback in an SEC game.

Defense took a poor angle on Nuss' first touchdown and gave receivers a 10 yard cushion all game!! I'm not saying Daniels is better, but the gameplan was to keep Daniels in the pocket, that's why there were so many open throws in the first half. Nuss looked good in the second half, but I also watched him look like a HS Freshman against Southern.

Thanks for posting that ...dam what coulda been...not talking qb vs qb at the moment but looking how they used the middle of the field.. specifically JD5 to Boutte out of the slot across the middle...that was open half the season it seemed like but he found him at the 4:25 mark beautifully. Nuss and hopefully WH will be willing and able to make those as well as the 50/50 long balls because they can actually pass ON the run. Scrambling out of the pocket and up to the LOS ( sucking the backend up ) then throwing deep is what separates a running qb and qb who can throw on the run.. or just sit in pocket but either way using the middle of the field was beautiful and I personally hope to see more of it.

People need to stop assuming Nuss is the same from Southern and the Arkansas game LY. In both cases he was PRESSING to try and make a case to be the starter. The game against New Mexico is a much better comparison point. He took what the defense gave him and protected the ball.
In the same light, you can’t fully look at Georgia and be like this is Nuss. We were down big and committed to throwing it. We need to understand what a full playbook Nuss looks like from the start, before we can make a fair comparison vs Daniels.

Exactly and all his throws were hitch throws to stationary receivers. Nuss showed what is possible.
Future has to have a bigger arm than JD.

recklessness
That’s his problem. Not anything physical or his arm talent. You can be the best pure passer in the world, if you are reckless with the football, you ride the bench.

Daniels has given us a better chance of winning this year with the question marks about the offensive line especially earlier in the season, no doubt. But an improved offensive line with a good stable of running backs, a qb who can stretch the defense vertically would make our ceiling that much higher imo. He will make mistakes but with more risks come higher rewards.
