Kelly wants to utilize the position. His timeframe at ND, he had 8 drafted into the NFL. The NFL uses the TE, as for personnel, the 11,12 and 13 personnel is used. Kelly and Denbrock know the value. When Kelly was hired he look to add to his staff.
Kelly talks about a Coach on the staff. Terry Malone, he’s the guy that has mentored our TE’s, helped with their development. Malone’s title is Senior Offensive Analyst (TE).
To make note, he spent 9 years coaching TE’s with the Saints.
“Originally going to the New England Patriots, Malone was hired away by Sean Payton, and became a part of his coaching staff in 2006 and helped the Saints capture their lone Super Bowl title in 2009. He left after the 2014 season.”
Kelly has put together a great support staff. Malone is one for sure.

I think the thing that makes the prospect of potentially having two awesome TEs and using a lot of 12 personnel exciting is the fact that our OL is looking like it's going to be developing into a major strength as soon as next year.
If you've got a great OL *and* multiple TEs on the field, teams will have no choice but to load up the box in order to stop the run. However, at least one of our TEs is a hell of a receiver, and we know our WRs are studs - so we become an absolute nightmare of a matchup. I actually think a 12p-heavy, play action-heavy attack suits Nuss's strengths to a T.
I'm getting excited yall.

Mac Markway looks like the real deal …he can catch and block

Jaxon Howard …if you look at his tape …he might be a better tight end …than an edge rusher ( just saying)

I'd love to get Bell. South Carolina really screwed the pooch here. Bell had a big year last year in his first year playing (30 catches, 500 yards, 5 TD), was All-SEC. They brought in the OU TE transfer with Rattler and took away a lot of plays to Bell. They moved Bell to RB even during the season for whatever reason.
Now the TE from OU is back in the portal leaving and Bell is as well. Talk about some poor roster management there to lose your Top 2 TEs to the portal, especially when you already had a really good one you upset.
I will say Bell is not prototype TE size at 6'3 232 and he is not a very willing blocker (very low pass block and run block grades on PFF) so Kelly might pass on him in that sense. He is a very good receiver though.
